I appreciate your opinion and I have allowed your posting to be published. I will, though, respond to your objections in the following way:

Problem #1: You expected an opportunity to sell baked products. The advertisement actually said "Love to bake? Sell gourmet products for profit...". To me this means that you are the one that loves to bake, and we have gourmet products to improve YOUR baking. This implies products that are not finished goods but raw materials.

Problem #2: You have had problems with MLM programs in the past and have provided statistics about MLM programs. One thing that makes Watkins different is that the products can be sold to end consumers and are in demand. We sell quite a bit (although I am not allowed to say because our results "aren't typical") of Watkins Products. Anybody could do it but not everybody will.

I have to say that MLM, being multi-level marketing, is simply a method of compensating people for producing results. What makes it "bad" is the way that some people sell the opportunity, and what they expect you to do once you join. We try to set reasonable expectations and what you do is really up to you. We are here to support your goals.

Watkins also has a 100% unconditional money-back guarantee on the products and a 30 day guarantee on the materials in the starter kit. Don't like the opportunity after you join, you can get your money back. We also extend the 30 day moneyback guarantee indefinitely, so anytime you want your money back, we give it. Note that this is only for Watkins Products and materials bought from Watkins Incorporated.

I am sure you can find many other ways that Watkins or MLM sucks, and you might be right. But I can tell you that it sucks much less than other companies, programs, and product lines I have found.

I don't really expect to change your mind but I did want to speak mine. Thank you for "listening".

Brian:

I was expecting to be offered an opportunity to sell "baked products" as a business opportunity - not to be solicited into an MLM business - which incidentally I detest for many reasons!!

The 2 "biggies" about MLM - 97% of people lose $$$ and the "attrition" rate is a killer as they come in one door and 2/3 months later they leave by another door!! Been there and done that!!

The $50 worth of free products is open to anybody who signs up as a Watkins Associate during the month of April 2012 within our group. To sign up, you can go to the following link and click on a sponsor:

http://satterleemarketinginc.com/2010/11/sign-up-now-as-a-watkins-associate/

Once you have signed up, we can help you claim your $50 Watkins Gift Certificate from The Summit Group's training web site.

If for some reason this turns out to be too difficult, we would be happy to provide you with a $50 gift certificate ourselves.

Again this is a promotion for the month of April 2012.

Hi Bruce,

I appreciate your feedback. We used a "blind ad" for our classified in Entrepreneur and other magazines... not to mislead you but because we wanted to avoid the trademarked names. We figured you could decide not to read any further once you got to our website...

Please note that Watkins has an exceptional gourmet line of products that can enhance your cooking and baking. And, if you love what you use, you are also likely to sell the product to others and enhance their baking. That is what the ad is all about. Watkins strength in the U.S. is their gourmet line, and you can make money by using and selling their gourmet products.

I apologize if this was misleading... what did you expect to find when you arrived here?

Thank you, Brian.

Your AD... "LOVE TO BAKE" in entrepreneur is misleading - as you are very obviously an Independent Watkins Distributor!! I expected to read something different - as pertains to the "Headline"!! What say you Mr. Watkins distributor?

Hi Rachelle,

We just became Watkins Manager level last month by selling products out of the catalog. Manager Level means that we sold $2000 worth of product in our group for two months straight, and most of those sales came from our own personal sales. We have been able to find avenues to sell the products at or above suggested retail value. Note that not $1 of product sales came from retailing in stores.

Even though the company has been around almost 200 years, and even though you will see as many as 20 items on the Walmart shelves, Watkins is still in demand by customers who know the product line and there are still many opportunities for growth.

If you join within our group, I will let you know exactly how we have been doing it.

Thank you, Brian.

I looked at this business but how can you sell the products directly when they sell them cheaper in stores then you do in your catalog?
